In short

Join Baker McKenzie Partner Kevin Coon for a conversation with Canada’s first Ombudsman for Responsible Business, Sheri Meyerhoffer.

June 2021 marked the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP), the main global framework for the respective duties and responsibilities of governments and businesses to protect human rights in economic activities.

To fight international human rights and responsible business conduct, Canada established the Office of the Canadian Ombudsman for Responsible Business (CORE) in 2019, following consultations with the late John Ruggie, author of the UNGP.

CORE represents the Government of Canada’s commitment to provide a mechanism to address concerns raised regarding the protection and respect of human rights by Canadian companies doing business around the world in the apparel, clothing, clothing and apparel industries. mining, oil and gas.

On October 28, Baker McKenzie will explore CORE’s mandate and the mechanisms it has in place to deal with human rights complaints.

An anonymous question-and-answer feature will be available.
