Bristol Airport has awarded more than £ 160,000 in funding to community projects in 2021.

The funding will fund various programs such as outdoor play areas for Backwell High School and Wrington Elementary School.

Elsewhere, cricket blankets have been provided for the Cleeve Cricket Club, dugout shelters for the Wrington & Redhill Football Club, and nature conservation programs for the Bristol Avon River Trust and Avon Wildlife Trust.

The fund chairman told the Mercury and Times his work is vital to helping communities in North Somerset thrive.

Barry Hamblin said: “The past 12 months have been another difficult year for local community groups due to lingering issues from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Being able to donate over £ 160,000 to support useful community groups is a huge achievement and has allowed projects to continue to improve, grow and provide essential support to local residents near the airport.

“We understand the importance of the fund and how it can be a valuable part of local community life. We want to be a ‘force for good’ for local community groups.

“We look forward to continuing our support for community groups in 2022.”

More than £ 1.2million has been awarded by the fund since its inception in 2012.
